Taking the Word to the World and the Cross to the Lost

Are You in the Place of No Communication?

Lo’debar, the place of no communication.  It is a place of sadness.  It is a place of fear.  It is a place where many of us have been.  We have gone there after someone has dropped us.

Lo’debar is where Miphibosheth, the son of Jonathan spent his life.  When Miphibosheth was five years old, his father and grandfather, Saul was killed in battle.

When Miphibosheth’s nurse heard that David had ascended to the throne, she took him and ran with him.  While she was running with Miphibosheth, she dropped him and his feet were crippled (2 Sam 4:4).

The servants of David had killed Ishobeth, the other son of Saul, because he was an enemy of David.  When the nurse heard that David had ascended to the throne, she feared that David would kill him because he was the rightful heir to the throne.  So she hid Miphibosheth in Lo’debar, at the house of Machir.

Years later, David asked one of his servants, Ziba, if there were any of Saul’s household left in Israel.  Ziba answered that there was one who was lame in the feet, and lived at the house of Machir (2 Sam 9:1-4).

David called for Miphibosheth to come to him. When he came to David’s throne, he bowed down before him in fear.  “And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will

surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually (2 Sam 9:7).

He asked David, “What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am? (2 Sam 9:8)  Miphibosheth was ashamed of himself because he was lame.  He believed that he was unlovable.

Miphibosheth did not know who he was.  He was the rightful heir to the throne.  He did not know the meaning of his name. Miphibosheth’s name means “dispeller of shame”.  This was Miphibosheth’s true nature.  He was to take away the shame of his family.

Because David had a covenant with Miphibosheth’s father, David took him in as his own.  David gave everything that belonged to his grandfather.

Just as God gave Jacob a new name, He has given all of us a name that speaks of our true nature.  In the Bible, the names give the character of the person.

In order for you to come out of Lo’debar, the place of no communication, you need to realize who you are in Christ.  You are God’s child.  He loves you.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

You were bought with a great price.  The precious blood of Jesus!  You may feel lame and useless, but God has a plan for your life.  The King is calling for you.  He is calling you to come out of the place of no communication and come to the King’s table.
